Mix and Match Wardrobe: Round Two

As January flies past at warp speed and money flies out of my checking account at an alarming rate, I find myself digging into my wardrobe. What works? What doesn’t? Is this combination reaching or do I look as fantastic as I think?

The fact is, I much preferred spending my extra hard-earned dough on presents for my loved ones. And because of this, Mix and Match Wardrobe is forcing me to be creative!

Round Two: Lavender Lips and Roses Jenny

Lips and Roses Jenny skirt in Lavender $102.00

I’ll be honest, at first glance, my reaction to the Lavender Lips and Roses Jenny skirt was: “meh”.  Now don’t get me wrong. It’s lovely. I am a certified Jenny Addict, so I love the full silhouette and the lips and roses print. For whatever reason I just was not feeling this light purple offering, and so I passed on by.

Until the opportunity to swap came up. I was able to trade with a lovely lady from PUG Swap/Sell, thus bringing the Lavender Lips and Roses Jenny skirt home to me.

And boy, am I glad I did.

Red is one of my absolute favorite colors to pair with this skirt. I love to pull out smaller featured colors and make them pop! I find that Pinup Girl Clothing’s Voodoo Vixen top gives this combo a dressier feel. If I had been bothered to do my hair and makeup, this combination would lend itself well to this–the season of parties.

This combination makes me feel very “Sandy” from Grease! I’m not sure if it’s the vintage lime colored scarf (pulling out those pops of green!), or my all-time-favorite saddle shoes, but I’d have proudly worn this to Rydell High’s end-of-school carnival! I opted to go without a belt this time around, proving that with or without cinching, these skirts are fabulous at nipping you in at the waist and creating a lovely silhouette!

Oh, lavender Jenny skirt, I will never again doubt your beauty and versatility! As the chilly months draw nearer, I have found myself obsessed with creating cooler-weather combos for all of my lovely warm weather skirts. This print typically screams “Spring!”, but I’ve tucked in my handy dark green H&M cardi, slipped on a black belt, and violà! The chillier it gets, the more layers I’d put on, so as the temperature gauge drops I’ll add a pair of thick black tights to the mix. For now though, bare legs, and a simple pair of Mel by Melissa flats! Instead of my typical Malco petti, I’ve opted for my trusty Laura Byrnes Canvas Underskirt. This thing is perfect for everyday wear in that it gives you the volume of a fluffy skirt without all the bulk of a full-scale petticoat!

Well, what are you lovelies waiting for? The Lavender Lips and Roses Jenny skirt was released as a limited run, so snap yours up while you still can! It’s still available in select sizes from Pinup Girl Clothing!

Mix And Match Wardrobe: Round One

Tis the season, ladies. The season of sales.

And along with the wheeling and dealing, it is also the season of “Account Balance: Zero”. In laymen’s terms: I’m broke. Between Christmas gifting, personal responsibilities, and an upcoming destination wedding trip to Ireland (Congratulations to my beautiful photographer Sarah King, of Sarah King Photography!), there just isn’t any extra wiggle room in my budget for shopping.

However, despite my dwindling account balances, I find myself thankful. After all, I am one of the lucky ones. I have food in my belly, a roof over my head, (mostly) up-to-date bill balances, and heat to keep me warm this winter. I have a little bit of money to spend on Christmas gifts for my loved ones, I have money for extras like the occasional Starbucks, or my monthly gym membership. As I sit here, I am aware that we live in a world where so many people struggle to acquire even the simplest of necessities. I work hard, I do my part, but I also know how fortunate I am to have all the things I need–and even some of the things I want. So, instead of pouting over sales I missed out on, or pretties that I can’t afford, I launch Mix and Match Wardrobe: Round One.

I have a closet full of beautiful clothes, and in all reality, I don’t need any more. Instead of spending this season lusting over things I can’t have, I am making a conscious effort to love the things I do.

Without further ado, I give you:

Round One: Queen of Hearts Jenny Skirt

For styling number one, I kept it simple. Pulling the pink details from the vibrant pattern of the skirt, I paired it with the Pinup Couture Peasant Top in Baton Rouge. A simple black slide belt and cross-strap heels finished the look!

Shoes: Charlotte Russe (Similar: Amazon.)

Style number two played around with layers and bright pops of color! Once again I tried to play up the pink tones in this skirt, this time with a vibrant pink v-neck cardigan! I layered my cardi over my Pinup Couture Doris top in white, tucked them both in and topped them off with a shiny vinyl belt. To finish it off, I slipped into my black patent flats from Bait Footwear.

In an effort to winterize my wardrobe, I bring you look number three! Pulling the gorgeous greens from the bright pattern of the skirt, I cozied up in a this dark teal sweater from H&M. It has glitter thread woven throughout, giving it a distinct holiday feel. Jersey knit high-waisted leggings, warm socks, and flat boots from Steve Madden helped me battle the declining East Coast temps while still sitting pretty in my favorite skirt!

Just one round into wardrobe mix-and-match, I’m already blown away by how versatile the clothes I already have are. I am most definitely an impulsive and emotional shopper: “new is always better!”. But efforts to become more financially responsible means a spending freeze. As I rifle through my wardrobe in an effort to put together new and creative combinations, it made me realize how much I can do with the pretties that are already mine. This definitely eases the sting of missing out on Black Friday sales, and leaves me feeling contented!
