It’s that time of year again, folks! The temperatures here on the east coast are dropping rapidly, and the holidays are just around the corner. (And approaching too quickly for comfort!) If you’re anything like me, you’ve done your best to get a jump on shopping for your loved ones (and perhaps snuck in a few goodies for yourself). Do you suddenly find yourself stumped and searching for the perfect stocking stuffer for the pinup in your life? Prefer to #treatyoself this season, and looking for some just-for-me goodies for your holiday? Buckle up, kittens, because today’s two-part post features stockings for your stocking: a review and a few of my top picks for your holiday gift giving needs!
The powers that be over at The Tight Spot reached out to me moons ago, offering up a sample of their wares for review. As an avid tights-and-stockings wearer, I was quick to respond. I indulged in a few additional pairs, hit “order”, and the waiting game began! About 10 working days later, I had new beauties from the UK on my doorstep and was thrilled to set to work trialing them.
As a retro loving girl, I stuck with what I know and love: classic black backseams, and tiny pin dot hearts.
What’s not to love about a classic black backseam? These go-with-everything shaping tights feature a retro-inspired back seam, and control-top for gentle shaping of the hips, bum, and tummy! Perfect for days when you want a bit of shaping and support without the miss and fuss of a girdle, these give off a gorgeous retro vibe while remaining easy to wear. At 31/44 and 5’6″, I snagged these beauties in a size M and am thrilled with my choice. They nip in my waist and smooth my tummy just enough, without being too constrictive.
While I’m an avid tights-wearer, I’m also quite the Destroyer Of Nylons: many beautiful stockings have met their untimely demise at my hands! I’m pleased to report that these live up to Wolford’s reputation of offering high-quality, strong legwear. These beauties are oh-so-stretchy and soft, while remaining strong enough to repel my stocking-shredding curse. 😉 At $45, these stockings are definitely an investment piece that, with proper care and wear, are built to last!
Tiny pindot hearts, you say? Classic pinup-style backseams? Sign me up! While browsing The Tight Spot’s site, I immediately fell head over feet for these gorgeous seamed stockings. Featuring an almond-hued base and black back seam, they ooze retro glam! Inspired by 40’s style dot stockings, these cuties feature a pindot heart motif and subtle diamond pattern throughout that make for a unique modern twist on an old classic.
These cuties are currently available at The Tight Spot in sizes M-XL. I snagged these in a size XL and am glad I did, as they fit beautifully on my curvy thighs and bum, and any smaller would have been cut too short for my torso. At $22, these are a more affordable stocking option for everyday wear! (Please note, I do find them to be a bit more delicate than the Wolford brand, but haven’t had any issues with tearing or runs in the hosiery.)
I’m super pleased with both my choices and the overall selection that The Tight Spot offers for both straight and plus sized girls! As a UK16/US12, I tend to shop both sides of that spectrum, and was able to find options I loved in both areas on the site. Shipping from the UK was quick, and they arrived safe and sound to my mailbox in less than the usual 14-day window for international shipping! I love that they offer free shipping for orders over $25 (a limit easy to reach when you’re stocking up for yourself or on gifts!)
